MAIN INTERCEPTING SEWER.
AN ALARMING STATEMENT. Wild. HAVE TO BE RENEWED. In the report on the stormwater drainage, of the cii.y by Messrs M'Curdio and Wilkie there appears the following alarming statement : “In carrying Manor street and Maeandrew road conduits across the foreshore to the harbour wall, proper care must be taken to see (hat they are built to stand. Most things built on this area hitherto have failed under the railway embankment. The embankment itself has sunk sft or 6ft in places. Tiny railway bridges have partially failed, and have caused great expense in repairs.. The large gasholder foundation failed utterly The main intercepting sewer is gradually failing, and will have to bo renewed at great expense in the more or leas near future. These things aro .«et down here ns a, warning. All the failures have come about through the structure sinking in the mud. There is no need of any failures at all, and the necessary f trouble should bo taken to avoid them.”
