ARMISTICE DAY
SERVICE AT THE ABBEY. DEAN’S “ASTONISHING ANNOUNCEMENT." 1 .xu Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON. October 20. The Dean of Westminster announces that as the Abbey service on November 11 must of necessity be of an ofllcinl character, no tickets will be available for the public, but the fighting services and ex-servicemen will be represented. The Daily Telegraph says that this astonishing announcement eclipses even the Government’s blunder of abandoning the Cenotaph service, and substituting an afternoon service in Trafalgar Square, which would lack the impressiveness of the Cenotaph ceremony. The Government has shown a complete lack of vision and sympathy with national feeling.—A. end N.E. Cable. THE CENOTAPH SERVICE. SALVATION ARMY FILLS BREACH. LONDON, October 21. There is intense public indignation at the decision to abandon the usual Armistice Day service at the Cenotaph because the day falls on Sunday, and to substitute a morning service at Westminster Abbey at which the King will be present and to which admission will be by ticket only. Although the officials assert that it will be thoroughly representative of the Empire, a protest is popularly voiced against the exclusiveness of the service. General Booth, of the Salvation Army, on learning of the arrangements, immediately applied for permission personally to conduct a sendee at the Cenotaph. This will probably be granted.—Sydney Sun Gable.
