It is estimated that 120,000 panel doctors will resign, representing 80 per cent, of the total. , Sir W. Joynson-Hicks (Financial Secretary to the Treasury) hints that the government may establish a new medical ser vice for the poorer classes if the doctors cease work at New Year. While ‘roping that the doctors will not smash the system the Minister is confident that he will tie able to organise substitutes. Hundreds of doctors, especially in the Midlands, have already handed in their resignations; doctors point out that the resignations will leave only about 2000 practitioners available for the State service. As these are mostly in seaside and country towns there will be a serious shortage of doctors in the great industrial centres.— Reuter.
