DUNBACK RAILWAY STATION.
PROPOSED ABANDONMENT. AN EMPHATIC PROTEST. A letter was received at (he. monthly meeting of the Wailteino County Council on Saturdav from the station master. Dimback, on the subject of tbo abandonment of the Dimliaek railway station by the department. The "liter exnressed the hope Km council would do all in its power effect (hn redress of that great- wrong which had no v.in illel in any oilier district of the dominion.” As a result of this let ter .(lie, following motions, proposed by Cr Ritchie, were carried : 1. ‘‘That: this council protests against the continued abandonment by the Railway Dppartment of (he Dunhack terminal station, and respectfully points out. that the settlers of tho seven postal districts of Dunhack, Wailiemo, Green Valley, Morrison’s. Macraes Flat. Moonlight, and Stouchurii are suffering serious inconvenience and losses by such abandonment, and have been compelled in consequence to a very large extent-, to relinquish tho use of tho railway and to resort to other and less vexations means of supplying their own requirements.
2. “That this council, after consideration of (he representations made to the department on behalf of the settlers so injured and the department’s replies, and after receiving the report of the conference held with (he commercial agent of the railway fMr Grant) on (he matter, expresses the firm opinion that on any correct system of accounts the abandonment of this terminal station has resulted in a financial loss to the State, ami should bo at once rectified in (he interests of the dominion revenue, if not in bare justice to the scltlers concerned.
3. “That, this council resnectfullv asks lhal an account in detail should he supplied to it showing exactly how tlie account of eosls of administration, nokeon. interest, etc., have been adjusted by the derailment ns between the Pabnersfnn-Dimback lino (nine miles) and the Palinerslon-T.ime-kilns line (also nine miles) for (ho financial year ended March last. 1923. 4. “That a eopv of these resolutions be forwarded to the Minister of Railways.’’
