EARLY ELECTION RESULTS. GOVERNMENT VICTORY INDICATED. PreM Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, August 28. It is estimated that between 60 and 70 per cent, of the Irish electors voted. Mr Cosgrave’s return is assured. The reports from Clare are contradictory, but it is believed that de Valera was strongly supported. Messrs Cdsgrave, O’Higgins, Mulcahy, and Mac Neill (members of the Ministry), and the rebel leader (Aitken) have been elected. The early returns suggest a sweeping Government victory.—A. and N.Z. Cable and Reuter. MINISTERS TOP DUBLIN POLL. THE REPUBLICANS SWAMPED. LONDON, August 28. (Received Aug. 29, at 9.50 p.m.) Mr O’Higgins and Mr Mulcahy led the polls in Dublin by overwhelming majorities. Mr Desmond Fitzgerald is also sure of election for Dublin County. Mr O’Higgins, in an interview, said that the Republicans had been swamped. He would be surprised if 20 were returned.— A. and N.Z. Cable. MR, COSGRAVE IN ITALY. AUDIENCE WITH POPE PROBABLE. ROME, August 28. It is announced that Mr Cosgrave, accompanied by Free State officials and church dignitaries, on Saturday will visit Bobbio, where there will be festivities commemorating the foundation of the local monastery of St. Columba, who was born in Ireland and died in_ Italy. Mr Cosgrave afterwards will visit the principal Italian cities. He is likely to nave an audience with the Pone.—A. and N.Z. Cable. • '
