SPANISH ROYAL FAMILY.
PRINCE OF THE ASTURIAS RUMOURS. Rumours have been current in Madrid .and abroad concerning the health of the Prince of the Asturias, the 16-year-old son of King Alfonso and the heir apparent to the Spanish throne. 'the truth is that the prince’s health has never been satisfactory, and he is suffering from a complaint of the spinal marrow which makes walking impossible. In the last public ceremonies at which the Prince of the Asturias appeared he did not leave his motor car, and now he has declined to attend any public functions. His health naturally greatly preoccupies King Alfonso and the Government, especially as the King’s second son, the Infante James, suffers from congenital deafness and am impediment of speech. The heir apparent therefore will have to be the King’s fifth child, the Infante John, aged 10, unless the Prince of the Asturias recovers. The matter, of course, is (says the correspondent of the Daily Mail) kept secret as much as possible.
