LOST £2OO PEARL
LABOURER SENT TO PRISON FOR STEALING BY' FINDING. The sequel to the finding o a lost pearl, valued at £2OO, the property of Mrs C. C. Menzies, of Hereford Gardens, was heard at Marlborough Street Police Court, when William Kiddy, aged 70, labourer, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour fov stealing by finding. , Mrs Menzies, in evidence, said she lost the pearl, which was attached to a diamond pendant by a. platinum chain, in Burlington Gardens a fortnight before. She did not discover her loss until she got out of her motor car. A police officer said on June 21 he saw the prisoner stop a number of men whom he- know to be diamond merchants in Hatton Garden and offer them something apparently for sale. Each man in turn shook his head and handed the article back. The prisoner next went to a group of four men and offered them a pearl and said, ‘’Give me forty quid for this marble.” When witness asked the prisoner how he obtained the pean he replied it had been given him in Franco in 1915 by an ohl pal. Finally he admitted that he picked it up in Burlington Gardens.
