NEW CABLE SYSTEM.
“ DAILY LETTER TELEGRAMS.” |Fu United Prkss Association.) WELLINGTON, August 25. The Post and Telegraph Department announces the introduction on September 1 of a new cheap class of plain language cable messages, known as “daily letter telegrams.” . These messages, which may be exchanged with the United Kingdom and Canada only, will be accepted on any day except Sundays, and will bo subject to delay in transmission of 48 hours. The charges for daily Jotter telegrams, and the restrictions on the text, will be the same as at present in force for weekend cable messages; but, unlike the |atter. the new class of message will bo delivered by the message boy at any time after 48 hours from the time of lodgment. Daily letter telegrams for the United Kingdom will bo accepted for transmission by either the Eastern or the Pacific route. Those for Canada, via the Pacific only (new service), will be equal to the present “deferred” system, except that the messages will be subject to 48 hours’ delay against approximately 24 hours for deferred messages. The rate will be just half the present rate for deferred messages, except that there is no minimum in the latter case. From date, the rates for week-end telegrams to the United Kingdom will be reduced from 13s 6d to Us lOd for a minimum of 20 words, and from 8d to 7d for each succeeding word; and to Canada from 10s 2d to 8s lid for a minimum of 20 words, and from 6d. to Sid for every word in excess of 20. Week-end telegrams are accepted for transmission via the Pacific only. ,
