Tall, stately ,and dignified, a well-dressed woman narnc-d Teresa Doughty Tichborne, who gave her age as 51, stood in the dock on Saturday at Clerkenwell. She was charged with sending letters to Sir George Lewis, the head of the famous firm of solicitors, in which she threatened to kill him. When she was arrested she made the following statement; —“So Sir George Lewis has at lost become frightened! I have written him about 100 letters in the last eight months. It is not until Sir George Leins thinks his skin is in danger that steps are taken. I am the last of the elder branch of the Tichbornes. They want to get rid of me. They sent a man in November offering ,to pay my debts if 1 would commit suicide. Since then I have twice attempted to commit suicide, but it was all hushed up. I hope that this time the matter will be thoroughly investigated.” The accused was remanded.
