While bricking up a section of the Garthshore colliery at ivilsyth (Stirlingshire), all the members of a gang oi eight men were killed by an explosion. The pit was badly wrecked.—A. and N.Z. Cable. MIRACULOUS ESCAPES. YOUNG MINER’S COOLNESS. ‘LONDON, July 30. (Received July 30, at 8.15 p.m.) Some miraculous escapes are recorded at Garthshore. A young miner named Sam Sloan, who was blown on to the roof, fell back on his face, but he was only cut and bruised. When he recovered his composure he groped about in the darkness and found a boy named Kelly with a broken leg. He dragged Kelly to the cage, enabling him to be saved.—A. and N.Z. Cable. MALTBY MINE DISASTER. 2000 MEN RENDERED IDLE. LONDON,' July 29, (Received July 30, at 8.15 p.m.) The Maltby Main mine will have to be closed for some time, rendering 2600 men idle.
