DROUGHT BROKEN.
WELCOME RAIN IN NEW SOUTH WALES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, Juno 13. There is general rejoicing over tl.j splendid and widespread rain recently, at a time when the very springs of heaven seemed to have died up. The .rain has delivered the whole of tic State from the gloom of drought. Not since the general rains which ended the 1918 and 1920 droughts has the downpour been equalled. Not, merely has it put fresh heart into the man out-back and stimulated him to fresh and more hopeful effort, but it has nut a now face on country that was perishtmr for water. The falls will bo of incalculable value to (he Rivcrina. the Slate’s main wheat-growing area, whi'o the rain augurs well for the western limits of the wheat belt. Tim north-western slopes and plains have fared better - than the central west, but the satisfactory falls generally will eo ii long way fo'wards emuriug a good harvest. As far eg the nnstoralbts are concerned, the rains have fallen too late to effect much ’Tinrovement in the grass country, although in the north-west <ho herbage is like-Iv to respond very quickly and afford good growth in the next few weeks. The city, no loss than the country, is rejoicing in the fact that tie lone drought la at, last broken. .
