PERSONAL.
Messrs G. H. Mason and H. Landon Smith, representing Afforestation (Limited), ot Auckland, are at present in Dunedin. In recognition of his original work in facial surgery, the University of Birmingham has conferred on Dr H. P. Fickerill, G.8.E., the degree of Master of Surgery. Mr John .Tewsley. Dawson (Dunedin) was yesterday admitted by his Honor Justice Sim. as a barrister of the Supreme Court. Mr Justice Sim and his associate (Mr K. C. Ackins) will leave for Christchurch on Monday. They will leave that city for Wellington on Saturday next to attend the sittings of tho Court of Appeal.
Mr James Clark, who has been organist at Kaikorai Presbyterian Church for the past two years, has been appointed,organist at the Milton Presbyterian Church.
After seven years’ service on the staff of tho Southland Boys’ High School, Mr ‘M, Alexander is leaving shortly to take up the position of mathematics master at the Napier Boys’ High School. Mr Alexander is an ox-pupil of the Southland Boys’ High School and had a brilliant career at Otago University. Dr S. K. Datta, one of the most distinguished of living Indian Christian leaders, is shortly to pay a visit of about six weeks duration to New Zealand. He is coining out under the auspices of the Voung Men’s Christian Association and tho Student Christian Movement, and is expected to be in Dunedin from August 13 to 17. Dr Datta’s name was first introduced to most of those who know him by his notable mission study book, “Tho Desire of India.” It was published in 1908, and was written from the point of view of an Indian Christian. Our Wellington correspondent informs us that the body of the late Lady M‘Lenn was taken to Wellington yesterday for cremation at Karori Crematorium,. and the ashes are to bo returned to Dunedin for interment. Among those present at the cemetery at Karori were Mr Frank M‘Lean. onlv son of the deceased lady, Mr T. M Wilford, M.P. (son-in-law) and his son (Mr G. M‘Lean Wilford). The Hon. W Dcwnio Stewart (’Minister of Customs) represented the Government, and Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., was present on behalf of the Liberal-Labour Partv. The body of the late Sir George M’Lean was cremated at Karori.
