The effect of the decision is that the South Island Union will inform the New Zealand Union that it desires a conference without stipulations, in order that both bodies may have their hands free. The following remits were passed:— That the Government be requested to amend the Main Highways Act to provide for two boards, one for the North Island and one for the south, instead of one board for both islands as at present., That this meeting, protests very strongly against the Government’s delay in appointing members qf the road boards under the provisions of the Main Highways Bill of last session, and in the .framing of regulations for the administration of the Act.
