TONGARIRO PARK.
A HOSTEL WANTED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 31. Mr J. H. Gunsoii, Mayor of Auckland, addressed the Wellington City Council today on the question of the finances of Tongariro Park. Ho said the park was now under the control of a board, which assumed duties early this year, and had already held its first meeting at Waimarino. The board was without money, but Would receive finance through timber royalties. An arrangement had been made with the Prisons Department respecting these royalties, which would result in the Prisons Department‘reading the park right from the main road to the mountains; but what would he the use of the roads without adequate' hostel ’accommodation? He appealed to the Wellington City Council to help, and said the Auckland City Council had given £IOOO. He hoped to see various local bodies 1 help, and remarked that if they got £IO,COO they could ask the Government for £ for £ subsidy. The matter is to be .considered .at the next monthly meeting of 'the Finance Committee of the Council.
