CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.

At the Supreme Courji' to-day Thomas Francis Bailey was charged with manslaughter in consequence of the death of a lad named Herbert Reginald Johnstone, arising out of an jiocidenit at Karon. It was contended by the Crown that accused had diiven in a negligent manner in order to avoid a tramcar. It was alleged that he swerved too much, striking and killing the lad on the side of the road. It was stated that the corner was known to be a particularly dangerous one. Though no bylaw dealt with speed around this_ particular comer, the Crown maintained this' was set down by the general city by-law at sir miles an hour. For the defence it was stated that there was no speeding, or aoting in an unreasonable manner. The accused had suddenly swerved to avoid a tram and did all possible to avoid a collision. A verdict of not guilty was returned.
