' NEW STEAMER PURCHASED. (Peb United Pekss Association.) AUCKLAND, May 28. The Northern Steamship Company has purchased the steamer Mounlyan from Australian Steamship Proprietary, Ltd. She 1343 tons gross, and is the largest sto, ever owned 8 by the Northern Company. It i. in Wed for a cargo and passengers' service between Auckland and Whangarei. Ths Calm, from BlnS, is due here to-night, and is to sail to-morrow for Timaru, Lytle - ton Wellington, and Wanganui. The New - Zealand Shipping Company has received cabled advice that the Hemuera, which loft Southampton on May 10 _ for New Zealand ports, arrived at Colon on May 24. • She is due at Auckland on June 10. ATHOLL FROM MONTREAL. The steamer Atholl arrived at Montreal on May 18, where she will lead for New Zealand porta. She is to sail any day now. and will come to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin. PBSHAWUR CLEARS BOSTON. The steamer Peshawur, which cleared this ■port on April 16 for West of England ports, ]B reported to have arrived at Boston on May 17. She sailed again on May 19 fox Avonmouth. TEK.OA FOR DOMINION. 1 Bound for New Zealand ports the steamer ■ Tekoa whieh sailed from Liverpool, arrived «t Colon on May 20, and sailed again Horn Panama the same day. The vessel is due at Auckland on June 11, and will then come or to Wellington, where she is due on June 18. THE PORT MELBOURNE. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Melbourne is now duo at Napier. She returns to Wellington, where she is due next Thursday, to complete, and is tc sail finally from that port about June 2 foi London, via Las Palmas. DEVON CITY FROM TEXAS. Advice has been received that the steamei Devon City left Port Arthur (Texas) on Ma; 4 for Wellington, Brisbane, Sydney, Mel -bourne, and Adelaide. The vessel is due a Wellington on June 9. ARAWA FOR DOMINION. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’: steamer Arawa, which cleared London oi May 11 with cargo for discharge, is expectec to arrive at Auckland on June ‘2O. Fron Auckland the vessel will proceed to Hawke': Bay and Dunedin to discharge. AUCKLAND-SUVA CABLE. The cable steamer Stephen, a 4500-toi vessel, is now cn route from London, carryin] two new cables from the Pacific Cable Board ' One is intended for the Southport (Brisbane to Sydney line, and the other on the rout from Suva to Auckland. The necessar; soundings have already been made by th cable steamer Iris for these cables, and th ■work of laying them down will bo starter shortly after the Stephen arrives in thee waters. A CANADIAN, STEAMER. H L Tapley and Co. have been informe by the Canadian), Government Merchan Marine (Ltd.) that they are prepared to p'i a vessel on to load at New Zealand port for Vancouver direct. It will probably b arranged that Dunedin will be the final noi of departure. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. Tho following vessels were expected to be within range of tho under-mentioned wireless stations last night:—Auckland: H.M.S. Chatham, H.M.S. Veronica, H.M.S. Laburnum, Marama, Waitomo, Omana, Canadian Inventor, Tofua, Kaiapoi, Wingatui, and Matakann. Wellington: Wahine, Mararoa, Ngaio, Maunganui, Tahiti, lonic, Canadian Seigneur, Moeraki, Rimutaka, Manuka, Port Melbourne, Waipori, Ulimaroa, Katoa, Admiral .Codrington, Opawa, Port Auckland, Wairuna, Kaiturui, and Wanaka. Chatham Islands: Waimana. TAIROA FROM LIVERPOOL. The S.S. and A. Line steamer Tairoa, from Liverpool, via Panama, which arrived at Auckland early yesterday morning, has general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, and is duo hero about Juno 10. lONIC AT WELLINGTON. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner lonic, from London and Southampton, via Panama, arrived at Wellington yesterday morning. She brought a large number of passengers as well as general cargo for discharge at Wellington and Lyttelton. MIDDLESEX DUE TO-MORROW. The Federal Lino steamer Middlesex, from Liverpool, is due here to-morrow morning to complete discharge of her Home cargo and to commence loading for Boston, New York, and West Coast of England ports. She will continue loading at New Plymouth, Wanganui roadstead, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland. GABLE ISLET LIGHT. In regard to notice to mariners No. 15 issued by the Marin© Department on March 21, relating to Gable Islet light, and to th© warning contained therein, mariners are notified in the Gazette that the amended and complete description of this light is as follows: —Aga light, unwatched, group ashing, two flashes every 11 seconds, (0.5 second light, one second eclipse; 0.5 second light, nine seconds eclipse), visible 17 miles. The light is exhibited from a white-painted circular tower 12ft in height, placed on tho summit of Gable Islet at a height ot 123 ft above high water. Sectors; From the line of transit with Moutara Bluff to the northward the light shows white round through west and north to 013.8 deg., thence red over Monowai rocks to 018.3 deg., thence while in shore to line of transit with Tatapouri Head to the south-westward.
