A large and varied programme was gone through, consisting of pianoforte selections, dialogues, recitations, and songs, and, judging by the applause, were highly appreciated. During the programme, and at a suitable interval, the Rev. Guy Thornton gave a short address on “The British Empire,” tracing its growth—first the missionary, and then the flag, which always stayed there, and brought civilisation with it. Numerous instances were quoted in. support of this—notably in South Africa. It was altogether a very helpful address, especially to the juveniles. The proceedings closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
