COUNTY ELECTIONS.
CLUTHA COUNTY. At the nomination of candidates on Monday tho following old members of the council were returned unopposed :—Messrs James Gumming (Wnipahi xtiding), Alfred North (South Molyneux), Robert M‘lndoe' (Pomahaka), D. R. Jack {Clutha), A. T. Harris (Clinton), and William Lawson (Maclennan). Mr Frank Bunn has replaced Mr Henry Morrison for Clydcvale Riding. For the three remaining ridings— Gatlins. Glonkenich, and Richardson—there arc contests. For Gatlins Mr T. Macginness is being opposed by Mr Thomas Barr; in Glenkenich Mr Alexander MTntyre. the sitting member, is opposed by Mr W. J. MTConzio; and in Richardson Mr W. S. Thomson by Mr John Christie. Keen fights are anticipated in all throe ridings. Tho -poll will be held on Wednesday, May 9. Clutha County’s four members of the South Olago Hospital Board were returned unopposed—namely, three of the old members in Messrs North. Malcolm, and Cnmming, and Mr Edward King, of Clydevale (who replaces Mr Joseph Mosley). Mr King is expected to “shake up” the Hospital Board, and in this process it is anticipated 1 that ho will bo supported by Mr J. W. Fenton, the new representative for Kaitangata Borough.
