THE SHARE MARKED

DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Th Dunedin Stock Exchange closed for the Easter vacation at noon on Thursday, and will not resume business until April 9. As the result of the shortness of the period, the amount of business transacted during the week is not very great, nor .has there much alteration in the quotations for shares.' In banking shares Unions have been the only line to show any movement, and the buying quotation advanced to £l4 5a at the call on Thursday morning. Now Zealands had a reported sale at S7s on Monday, but since then they have not- had much inquiry. Insurances have had their usual good inquiry, and a parcel of New Zealands was released at 28s on Tuesday. Shipping lines have also attracted a good deal of attention. Huddart, Parkers (ord.) were sold (cum div. and rights) at 60s 9d on Saturday and (cx div. and rights) at 40s 3d and 40s on Tuesday. These shares were again sought at 40s 3d on Thursday morning, but were not available at that price. Westport-Stockton (ord.) have been the only coal shares to be turned over on ’Change, and had thiee sales on Thursday at 5s Id and a reported sale at the same price the previous day. Westport Coals have advanced further, and have been sought at 37s 6d, but holders have not been willing to sell at that figure. Sellers of loan and agencies have continued to show very little desire to release their shares. In meat preserving lines the two issues of New Zealand Refrigeratings fell back a little, but ' they seem to have steadied now. and Gear and Canterbury meats have been sought at increased prices. The former, which had two reported sales at 43s 6d, had a buyer at 43s on Thursday, but no seller. Dominion Rubbers, Wilson’s Cements, and New Zealand Paper Mills have been the most prominent among miscellaneous shares, and all have had sales at slightly improved prices. Mining shares have not moved to any extent either way, but War Bonds are in a slightly better position than they were a week ago Thursday’s sales: Westport-Stockton (prd.), 5s Id (three); Wilson’s Cement, 24s 6d.
