GENERAL NEWS

The monthly meeting of tho Dunedin and Suburban Operative Butchers’ Union ■was hold on Monday evening, the president, Mr S. Brcttall, presiding over a largo attendance. It was decided to agree to the proposal of the master butchers that tho shops should be kept open on tho night of Thursday before Easter for tho convenience of the public. A visit was received from the officers and members of Court Enterprise, A.OF., the visitors receiving a very hearty welcome. During tho evening the president, on. l>ehnlf of the members, presented Mr David Kirkucss with a handsome silver mounted oak tray in recognition of his services as secretary of tho picnic committee, and in doing so referred to the strenuous work done by Mr Kirkncss. The, last picnic was tho most successful ever held and this was in no small manner duo to the energetic and efficient manner in which tho secretary had carried out his many duties. Mr Kirkncss. in responding, assured tho members that he appreciated very much tho consideration shown him. The work had been a pleasure to him, and the success of tho outing had been in itself sufficient recompense for his efforts. He thanked them for tho handsome and Useful present, and spoke highly cf the assistance ho had received from the committee. The remainder of the evening was spent; in a. friendly game of cards. After refreshments had been partaken of the visitors returner! thanks for the kindness they had received. Tims a pleasant evening was brought to a close. 'ITio weekly meeting of Rescue Lodge No. 105, 1.0.G.T., was held on Tuesday last and was presided over by C.T. Ero. lies. There was a largo gathering of members. Correspondence was received from (he Grand Secretary, notifying tho postponement. of Grand Lodge Session until 1924. Four candidates were proposed, three of whom were initiated into the order. Reports which were received from the syllabus and juvenile committees 'were adopted, “Question” night questions proved interesting and amusing. Items were given by Sister.-: Dnugal. Duncan, and Murray. Previous to the mooting of .Adult Lodge the Star of the Juvenile Temple met. and was presided over by S.J.W. Pro. J. Hilton, 'ihcre was a good attendance of members. After an extensive interval the Green Island school children held (heir first picnio since the Great War on Thursday last. The whole party of children, parents, and friends journeyed to Wingntui to the racecourse. The weather wa.s perfect and games and all kinds of sports wore indulged in. The big events wore the school handicaps, which were won by Gladys Crimp and J. Sickols. After a most enjoyable day the party, numbering about 450,' entrained for homo.
