HORTICULTURAL SHOW

Tho Tuapeka Horticultural Society’s annual autumn show, held on Wednesday, proved ono of the most successful hold by the society for many years past. Notwithstanding the fact that the weather had been very unfavourable for the production of choice flowers, there was a fine exhibition of cut blooms and good competition in every class. The fruit section was considerably assisted by 3kr D. Martin, of Beaumont, who forwarded a very fine collection of apples (dessert and cooking) and plums. In tho vegetable section there was a record entry, and tlie all-round good quality of the cxlribit was favourably commented on by the judge, 31r H. Clark (Dunedin). Til© industrial ueetion, which included fancy work and c;-cking for both seniors and juniors, was an attractive feature, some very artistic work being shown, while in the cooking classes thorn was abundant evidence that the ladies of tho district take a keen practical interest in this household department. The judges wero Mrs Cameron and 31iss Francis 31‘K.inlay, who expressed themselves as very pleased with the quality of flic exhibits. The attendance at tho show was very satisfactory, especially in the evening, when the capacity of the hall was taxed to its utmost. Mr and Mrs Woods and Mr C. 31oyle provided a musical programme during tho evening, which brightened the proceedings and added to tho enjoyment of all present.
