RAVENSBOURNE REGATTA

The rain on Saturday afternoon could not depress tho spirits of the local yachting and rowing men, and it was with the greatest enthusiasm that they took part in the Ravensbourno regatta. Tho Ravonsbourue residents likewise refused to bo discouraged by the unfavourable weather, and a considerable number of people were also present from Dunedin and Port Chalmers. Although it is 1017 since the last regatta was held at Ravensbourne, its old-time popularity has not departed; in fact, Saturday’s regatta was one of the most successful held by tho Ravensbourne Club. That being so, had the weather been at all propitious there is no doubt that there would have been a very largo crowd at the pretty seaside village. The absence of wind took a lot of interest out of the sailing races, but tbe water was most suitable for the motor-boat, rowing, and swimming races. During an interval, Messrs E. E. 3lollor and J. W. Munro, 31. P., delivered short addresses in the boat-shed. 3lr 3loller said that he was very glad to see such a largo number there that day. Tho Ravensbourne regattas had always had an excellent reputation, and the one they were holding that day could not fail to be a success, seeing iho enthusiasm which tho sailing and rowing men had brought to bear on the initial arrangements, and the support which had been given by tho residents of the borough, Dunedin, and Port Chalmers. Now that tho regatta had been started again they could rest assured that it would be an annual affair, as formerly. He wished to thank the local Hockey Girls’ Club for providing tho afternoon tea, tho Albany Street School Fife Band for the music, and the various officials who had worked to make the event such a 'success. 3fr 3lunro also congratulated the committee on the interest shown by the Ravensbourne people and tho rowing and sailing men in the regatta. Mr Simpson’s Kia Ora, steered by 3lr Joe Potter, was available, to take tho women and children for a trip on the water, and 3lr 3loss’s Medora was tho flagship. Results— ROWING.
