THE TAURANGA ELECTION
REFORM CANDIDATE’S OPENING ADDRESS. ENTHU3IASTIOALLY RECEIVED. (From Oor Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, March 4. The Taxi rang a by-election campaign was opened last night, when Mr C. E. Macmillan, Reform candidate, delivered a speech at Katikali, in the north-western portion of the electorate. There was a large attendance. The candidate wa-s greeted with great enthusiarsm. No questions wore asked, and a motion of thanks and confidence was carried amid loud applause. Mr Macmillan, after paying a striking tribute to the late Sir William Herries, outlined tho policy of tho Government. Mr T. Lochhead, who was approached by members of the executive of the Fanners' Union, stated in Tauranga yesterday that he would contest tho Tauranga seat if he is accorded the support of the Farmers’ cnion branches throughout the electorate. A Labour candidate has not yet been announced, and Sib Joseph Ward has not made a statement as to whether he will stand or not.
