At a preliminary meeting- of last year’s members of the North-East Valley class in connection with the Workers’ Educational Association, Jieki in fit. Stephen’s Hall, King street, on Thursday efvaning, full arrangements were made for the coming session. The tutor, Mr J. Johnson, presided. It wao reported that practically every member of last year’s class was continuing, and several now ones were in sight. It was decided to have the- opening meeting for the year on Thursday, April 5. that Thursday should bo the regular meeting night, aid the place of meeting the small hall of St. Stephen’s Church, Howe street entrance, which was being kindly lent by the church authorities. The matter of an opening scoiaJ and the election of .officers was loft to a later meeting. Considerable discussion to ole place on the question of what subject should be studied tills session, and it was finally decided to continue Social Psychology. Tho special topic to bo taken would be “The Development of Character,” with special reference to the ‘■influence on Man’s Social Environment,” tho subject to be treated in such a manner (hat. new members might be able readily to follow, without a previous knowledge of tho subject-. A very successful session is therefore anticipated. A meeting of tno North Dunedin branch of the Otago Home Economics Association was hold on Friday afternoon.. Mrs Orr Campbell, convenor, occupied tho chair Miss Mackenzie read the proposed constitution of the association and this was adopted. Hearty appreciation of an excellent proposed programme of lectures and demonstrations was expressed unanimously. Three nominations for the same number of vice-presidents were received and it was resolved to distribute circulars calling a meeting of those interested in home economies in North Dunedin, and drawing attention to the programme which has been prepared. A meeting of the Taieri Agricultural ►Society was held in Coronation Hall, Mosgiol, on Thursday night. A communication was received from the Otago A. and P. Society pointing out that tho shield which had been won some years ago by the Taieri County for the best county display was at present stored in tho society’s buildings, and the Otago Society’s Committee would like to see it again in competition. It was suggested that the Taieri Agricultural Society might offer it for competition amongst schools at the Otago A. and P. Winter Shows. It was resolved that the Taieri Agricultural Society’s committee agree with the suggestion of the Otago A. and P. Society, and that a committee, consisting of the president and secretary and Messrs Johnson and M’Lean, confer with the Otago A. and P. secretary as to the conditions. Tire secretary of tho Albany Street School Band wrote with reference to the cup which had been competed for by A Grade bands and which had been won by his school’s hand. It was resolved that tho donor of tho cup lx- communicated with in the matter. Correspondence from the Clydesdale Horse Society with regard to tin) registration of the winner of tho society’s modal was left to the. secretary to follow up and report at next meeting. Mr A. Walker was deputed to confer with an exhibitor who had made a complaint about the value of one of tho prizes she had received.
