In addition there are published regulations for the destruction of deer by persons appointed by acclimatisation societies in districts where the society deems it necessary to have the deer thinned out. These districts tire: Ashburton, Otago, and _ Hawke’s Bay. In the Rotoiti red deer district the power to destroy is vested in the General Manager of Tourist and Health Resorts. There is to be an open season for wapiti and moose shooting in the Piordland National Park. The season extends from March 24 to May 31, each day inclusive. Only wapiti stags and bull moose may be killed. The license fee for wapiti is £lO. Oniy two licenses will be issued, and np licensee shall kill more than two wapiti stags. If more than two people apply for licenses, provision is made for a ballot. The license fee for moose is £3O. Only two licenses are to be issued, and each licensee is entitled to kill only one bull moose. If thyo are more than two applicants, the licenses shall be fixed by ballot.
