At the Supreme Court to-day, John Hunter, who was found guilty of the attempted theft of a watch from an elderly man in a hotel by snatching it, was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment. William Pitt was charged with indecently assaulting two young girls at Taumaronui. The jury disagreed. A new trial was ordered. NAPIER, March 1. In the Supreme Court this morning, Horace Hartman was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for breaking, entering, and theft. His companion, Reginald Cooper, was granted probation for three years under strict conditions. For the theft of £578 from Thomas Cook and Sons, for whom he was agent, Charles Leslie Ling received two years’ imprisonment. At the Supreme Court to-day ToeepH Barnitt, on three charges of forging and uttering, was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment on each charge, and for (ho theft of a cheque book he received one month’s imprisonment, the sentences to oq concurrent, and accused to be declared an habitual criminal. William Lamb, for carnal knowledge, two: counts, was sentenced to five years on each count, the sentences to be concurrent.
