THE BONUS REDUCTION
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —I think u remonstrance is due by ratepayers upon the reported decision of the City Council to defer action in regard to the bonus reduction fixed by the Arbitration Court u month (%• so back. Not only is the court's decision being treated with contempt, but economically the action of the council is unsound, for it is largely by the operation of these reductions that the cost of living can be reduced. 1 hen the anomaly exists of the city rates being increased, both directly and by moans of alterations in the valuations, when a moans of at least partially avoiding this course is at hand. I maintain that the onus of carrying out decisions of the court rests upon public bodies oven more than upon private employers. and I trust this protest will lx? supported by other payers of rates in the city so that the council may see the wisdom of adopting the right though doubtless disagreeable course. —I am, etc.. Ratepayer. Dunedin. January 22.
