DUNEDIN MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION

A meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association was he'd yesterday afternoon in the secretary’s board room, Mr W. C. Burt (president) occupying the chair. DUNEDIN EXHIBITION. In -connection with the Dunedin Exhibition, the chairman said that a plan of the Kensington Drill Hall was being obtained. The matter of guarantees was also brought up, and it was decided that the committee, which has the preliminary arrangements in hand, should frame a schedule and report at a later meeting of the association. * JUDES MICHELET’S VISIT. Correspondence was received with regard to the visit of the French cruiser Jules Michelet to New Zealand. The chairman said that it was originally intended that the vessel should visit the four principal ports, but now sho would only call at Auckland and Wellington. The association had been asked to send delegates to Wellington while the vessel was at that port. It was unfortunate that the visit occurred so soon after the holidays, as it would be difficult to get a deputation to go to Wellington at that time. Several members were strongly of the opinion that the South Island was being overlooked and the North Island favoured, but as the association did not know definitely who was responsible for the vessel’s itinerary nothing definite could be done. After some discussion, the secretory was instructed to write to the Minister of Industries and Commerce asking for a full statement regarding the arrangements for the Now Zealand portion of the ship’s visit, and, asking in particular, whether the New Zealand Government was responsible in any way for the elimination of the South Island from the itinerary. It was also resolved that steps lie taken to ascertain whether any members would he visiting Wellington on January lit), and, if so, that they bo asked to represent the association.
