Charles Buckley, a San Francisco electrician. who, while intoxicated, ran down and killed Marlon Newton, four years old, in his automobile, the next, day offered lo give bis own child. Isabel, five years old, to the parents of the dead child. The offer was refused by Marion’s mother. Mrs Burklcy, who was in the machine with her husband at the rime Marion was killed, said she was agreeable to Buckley’s offer, which was made through hi= attorney, “if it would sufficiently compensate that- other mother for what she has last.’’ Buckley is in prison awaiting trial on charges of manslaughter and driving an automobile while intoxicated.
