THE FINAL GALLOPS. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. January 18. Rain fell steadily throughout the night at Trentham, but cleared before work commenced at 5 o'clock this morning. After the downpour of the two previous days the trial grass track was in good order. There was a good crowd of owners and visitors to see the final gallops. Red Courier alone got to the end of four furlongs in 52 Beconds, Wink and Bazana taking 52 3-5 seconds to cover the same distance. Insurrection (A. Reed) and Palestrino, (P. Keene) were associated in a gallop over a mile and a-quarter. The local horse had slightly the better of it, finishing in front in 2min 13s?c. Epitaph (R. Reed) slipoed over four furlongs in 51sec, and Zouave (C. Reed) covered six ..furlongs in lmin 19 2-ssec. Rapine an<f Bonnie Heather started to run a mile together, but the latter'a saddle slipped, and she was eased up. Rapine took lmin 4Csec to cover the distance. Pantagniel and Suggestion, in the order named, in a spurt from the three-furlong post occupied 41 3-ssec. Comical and Diamond Ring were associated in a mile gallop, which took lmin 3 (sec for the last seven furlongs. Winning Hit was in front of Angelo at the end of six furlongs, run in lmin 20sec. Printemps drew away from Spoilt© at the end of five furlongs, and the Hawk cantered a couple of rounds, but was net extended. Haurangi covered the last seven furlongs of a mile gallop in lmin 33sec. Alfort (J. Buchanan) was always going better than Muraahi in a six-furlong trial, which occupied lmin 19sec. Parorangi was in front of Blachead at the end of five furlongs, which was run in lmin 7 3-sec. Emperor put plenty of dash into a half mile sprint, which was done in 51 2-osec. Cupidon, ■who looks in excellent fettle, covered the last six furlongs of a round in lmin 20sec. Astinome and D erou ' e<^e '°°k 52sec to run half a mile. Glencairn was going better than Malingerer at the end of o six furlong trial run, which took lmin 23sec. Soltana pleased lha critics by the manner in which he galloped half a mile in 51 4-ssec. He finished in front of Wheatfield without being asked to do lfis best. Dainty Step finished some lengths in front of Triboulet at the end of seven furlongs, the time being lmin 38sec. The acceptance for the first day for Triboulet arrived too lat«. but he will compete on the other days. Vespucci ran the last four furlongs of"a, circuit in 53sec. Scion, assisted by Kaika, went a mile and a-quarter, and the *N»w Zealand and Auckland Cup winner finished in front of his companion, taking linin 4Ssec to cover the last mile. Sunny Loch did better than Raconteur at the end of six furlongs. Trcssayr and Pluto ran half ft mile in 52 l-ssec. Misrule beat his companion over four furlongs in 54sec. Kick Off. Scrimmage, and the other late arrivals were given light tasks. Among after-breakfast workers was Silver Peak, who appeared to like the going, and pleased his Southland owner (Mr W. AUCKLAND, January 18. The Queensland bowlers played a repreeentativo match against Auckland, five rinks being engaged. Four aggregated the same number of points and the fifth game was won by Auckland, the total scores being: Auckland, 119; Queensland, 116. A team representing the All Whites defeated the Queenslanders under electric light by 92 points to 84. CRICKET UMPIRES. First Grade.
