THE EDEN ELECTORATE. LABOUR PARTY’S CONTENTION. CORRUPT PRACTICES ALLEGED. (Psb United Peess Association.) AUCKLAND, January 9. A petition against the election of the L ott. C. .1. Parr for the Eden seat is to be lodged to-morrow. The potitioti, which is being advanced in the interests of the Labour Party, centres round strawberries and cream which are said to have been supplied to women’s meetings at Glen Eden on November 15 and Avondale on November 30. .Corrupt practices and, in the alternative, illegal practices were alleged. The petition alleges that Mr Parr, both by himself and hisj agent, entered into a contract to pay for the straw* berries and cream, and engaged and paid, or contracted to pay, for a person to waanj up and clean the necessary crockery. OAMARU AND WAITOMO SEATS. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. January 9. The Hon. E. P. Lee stated to-day that fa# purposes resigning the portfolio of Justice, External Affairs, and Industries and Commerce almost immediately. He confirmed the statement that he is lodging an election petition. Mr Jennings has instructed Mr M'Grath, in the event of the recount for Waitomo! going against him, to launch an election petition against the return of Mr Rolleston.
