HEAVY FINE IMPOSED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND. January 9. The police raided the billiard saloon of William Alexander Spiers, cf Newton mad, last night, and secured a quantity of bettins; materials. Spiers pleaded guilty in the Police Court this morning to keeping a common gaming-house, and said that he was onlv operating in a. small way. The Magistrate: “You people begin in a small way, and you grow. You are fined £100.”
