SHARK TRAGEDY

IN NORTH QUEENSLAND. In witers between Sea-mess and Torquay, in North Oueensland, that were thought lo he practically elite from sharks, a young man has just lost his life after a terrible fight with ono of the monsters. Alfred Graesman, aped 19, was the victim. Ho was bathing, with on uncle and two friends, when the shark attacked him, and his right eido was torn away from the armpit to the stomach. Grossman managed to reach the. shorn after beating the shark off, and was taken to a shed for attention, but died shortly afterwards. Deceased was visiting Pi a! ha. from Cordalba, where ho resided with his parenls. The news of the tragedy has caused widespread consternation, as for tho past 40 years there had not been a single record of any similar incident. Grossman was only in between three and four feet of water when attacked. Subsequent to tho tragedy Dio shark continued to circle about tho water, and was easily discernible from tho shore. Several lines wore thrown ou4, and one man fired four shots at tho monster, but without effect. Deceased was about to leave for his home at Cordalba just beforo tho tragedy, but decided to prolong his stay.
