OBITUARY
MR ARTHUR DIOSY. Pres* Association— By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 3. (Received Jan. 5, at 10.30 p.m.) The death is announced of Mr Arthur* Diosy, writer and lecturer.— A. and N.Z. Cable,.. [Mr Arthur Diosy, F.R.G.S., was a Knight Commander of Rising Sun of Japan and of Medjidieh. Knight of Ohrist or Portugal* Officter de ITnstruction Pyblique France, He was the son of a Hungarian patriot* Martin Diosy, and was educated in England and,Germany. He advocated for many years the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, and founded, 1891, the Japan Society. He was an hon. member Paris Ethnographical Society and Societe Franco-Japonaise; “interpreter” of the Sette of Odd Volumes (President, 1903-4); Member Navy LeagueSilver Medallist Ligue Maritime Franoaise, 1920; served in Royal Naval Artillery Volunteers, 1875-82; Lecturer for Prince of Wales’* National Relief tbnd, 1914-15; delivered many recruiting lectures, 1914-16. He served as staff-lecturer, Y.M.C.A., with British Expeditionary Forces in Mediterranean War Area, January to June, 1917. He visited Italian Front, September, 1917, and was attached to First Army, British Expeditionary Force, France, 1918. He was lecturer to the British Army of Occupation, Belgium and Germany, February and March, 1919, and British Army of the Rhinb, May, 1919. * His publications include “The New Far East,” 1898, and History of-Niw Japan m Harmsworth’s History of this World, 19C7J
