The National Daily Association of New Zealand, Limited, has received the following cable from its London office, dated December 9:—“The butter market has improved. There is a demand for New Zealand butter which is now at 180 s; Australian, from 174 s to 1765; Argentine from 160 s to 1665; Danish, 2005.” CANTERBURY MARKETS. ' (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 12. Business is on the quiet side in practi- • cally all lines of produce. Millers are operating very conservatively in new season’s wheat. Some .business has taken place at 5a per bushel for country stations, but the Home parity scarcely warrants this pftce should there be a surplus for export. Oats are quoted at 3s 4d, f.0.b., s.i., or 2s 6d to farmers. Barley is not yet exciting much notice, the result of the licensing poll notwithstanding. Peas ore being quoted at 5s 9d to Gs, but are not so firm as they were. Chaff is meeting with a local inquiry at £3 10s for country stations. Forward business in potatoes has died • down. It is understood that there is an increasing area in, and the growing season has been good. Sellers are more plentiful at £3 5a per ton for country stations than buyers for tho main crop deliveries. UNITED STARR-BOWKETT SOCIETY. A meeting of members of the United StarrBowkett Building Society was held at Hugh Mitchell and Co.’s office last evening. Mr E. A. Rosevear (chairman of directors), who presided, stated that applications were coming in freely for shares in the new No. 7 Group. Ho anticipated that this group would bo commenced early in the new year. A ballot was then held. for the ninety-third appropriation in No. 2 Group, which resulted as follows; —Cluster No. 21 being drawn, held by two members. A sale for tbs ninety-fourth appropriation in No. 2 Group resulted as follows: —£500, at £5 per £IOO. A ballot was then held for the eighty-second appropriation. No. 3 Group, which resulted as follows:—Cluster No. 102, being drawn bv one member. A sale was then held for tho eighty-third appropriation in No. 3 Group. Group, which resulted as follows:—£500, £4O £100; £4OO, £24 per £IOO. A ballot was then held for the twenty-sixth appropriation in No, 5 Group, which resulted in cluster No. 59 being drawn, held by one member. A sale was then held for the twenty-seventh appropriation in No. 5 Group, which resulted as follows:—£500, £4O per £IOO.
