AUCKLAND SCAFFOLDING TRAGEDY
THE AFTER-MATH. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 16. A deputation representing the New Zealand Federation of Matter Painters, Decorators. and Signwritcrs, waited upon tho Minister of Labour to-day, And protested against the decision to enforce strictly the present scaffolding regulations, more particularly in tho direction of requiring that all scaffolding over 10ft high should be notified, and that on scaffolding over 10ft high 18in planks should bo used, and not 12in planks. Tho Minister (the lion. 0. J. Anderson) informed the deputation that the safety of worHers'imi.st come -above all other things. After the scaffolding accident at Auckland, which resulted in the death of four men, he . gave instructions that (he whole matter of -the regulations and their enforcement should bo looked into; and later a chief inspector was appointed. That officer had gone round tho country, and, after thorough investigation, had reported that tho only tiling to do was to insist upon the enforcement of the regulations.
