BRIGHTON DOMAIN BOARD

The regular monthly meeting of the Brighton Domain Board was held in Hislop Hall, Brighton, on Saturday last, and was attended by the following members: Messrs Stevenson (chairman), A burn, Hobbs, Bush, MTntosh, and Allen. Apologies were received from Messrs Christie. Mitchell, and M'Coll. Correspondence was received from the Minister of Marine regarding improvements in tho sanitary condition of tho river, to be made before tho holidays; from the Taiori County Council, in connection with tho depositing of rubbish on the Domain, and from the Department of Lands and Survey referring to the leasing of a portion of the Domain for the erection of tennis courts. A deputation from the Tennis Club wailed on tho board and placed before it further information on the proposed courts. It was decided that the tennis club should call its members together immediately and appoint delegates to meet the board early in tho week to arrange for the lease of sufficient grownd to lay down three or four courts. If the Department of Lands and Survey agree to the conditions being accepted Christmas should see tennis in full swing at Brighton. A committee consisting of Messrs Stevenson, Hobbs, and Allen was appointed to meet the Taieri County Council representatives in connection with the retention of Market Square as an open area for the people of Brighton. The chairman and secretary wore appointed a committee to meet two delegates from the Brighton Advancement and Amenities Society and two from tho tennis club to make arrangements for the holding of a garden fete and sports during the Christmas holidays. The Works Committee reported that the temporary bathing sheds would bo ready for use on Labour Day. The board approved of tho action of tho chairman and secretary (who had been empowered to act) in arranging a. satisfactory lease of the grazing rights of the Domain for the ensuing rear.
