General Bruce, interviewed at Marseilles, declared that, while without doubt Everest cannot easily be conquered, he believed the ascent was not impossible, though it would remain -'xtraordinarily difficult. Patience, health, and cheerful-* ness were needed, and acclimatisation was indispensable. He was satisfied that the landmarks which bad been made would indicate the rente to be followed. ■ General Bruce said that be would probably re-attempt the ascent in two years’ lime.—The Times.
