(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND. October 3. Mr Frank H. Bu-rbnsh (recently Repatriation Officer) will contest the Waitemata seat as a Liberal-Labour candidate Mr W. A. Allen, a well-known Coromandel dairy farmer, lias been selected to contest the 1 hames seat at the , general election in uio interests of the Liberal Party. Mr Donald Grant will contest the Tanranga seat as a supporter of the Libera) Party and in opposition to Sir William Herries. Mr Grant is prominent in local public affairs, being' a member of the T'auranga Harbour Board and the representative of the Maketu Riding cn the County Council and the Hospital Board. MR WITTY’S DEFECTION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, October 3. The ranks of the Liberal Opposition have been still further diniinisncd by the defection of Mr George Witty, the member for Riccarton. Mr Witty has announced that at the coming election lie will stand as an Independent Liberal. Mr Wilford has notregarded Mr Witty as a member of his parly, seeing that since Mr Wilford took over the leadership of the party following on the death of Mr W. D. S. MacDonald, the member for Riccarton has not attended the party caucuses. Mr Witty's position is not quite the same as that taken up by Mr Isitt.
