Mr Patrick Cosgrave, an uncle of the President of Bail Eireann, was shot dead after struggling with one of four armed raiders for the possession of revolvers in licensed premises in Dublin. Irregulars attempted to murder Mr Joseph Sweney. head of the National forces in Donegal, as he was proceeding along a road to Dunglow with his brother. One of the attackers was wounded.
