Five competitors, including Herbert James (England) Brack Papa (Italy), and three Frenchmen competed, in a 3000 kilometres air race for the Deutsch Dolameurthe Cup and 60,000 francs. The race was wort by in 6dmin llsec.—A. and N.Z. Cable. PARIS, October 1. James was favourite in the Deutsch Speed Prize race. Driving a 450 horsepower Baraelmars machine, he nearly lost nis life owing to strangulation in raid-air. Ho tied a map around his neck while travelling 210 miles an hour. The force of th'e wind blew the papers and caused the string to tighten around liis neck. James managed to prevent suffocation, but lost the map and so abandoned the contest.— A. and N.Z. Cable.
