FOOTBALL.

ALHAMBRA CLUB. SMOKE CONCERT. Them were about 120 members, as well as representatives of the Otago Hugby Union and other football clubs, present at the Alhambra Football Club's annual smoke concert, which was held in Kroon’s Social Hall last night, Mr J. Mitchell presiding. After the toast “The King” had been honoured, Mr 11. Harris proposed the toast of “The Alhambra Football Club.” In doing so he referred to the club’s lengthy and successful existence, and wished it many more years of success. lie congratulated it on the manner in which the support of its old members had been retained, mentioning that in this respect it was equal with any other chib in the town. Honour had been gained in Australia for the Alhambra Football Club by ite well-known player, “Jock” Richardson, who was recognised ns one of the best forwards in Australasian The club had also been well represented in interprovincial football by the earne player. Coombes, and W. Knox. “Bunch” M'Dougall had captained the Coldfields touring team, and Thomas and Web ber had also made names for themselves on the same tour. Mr J. Mitchell, in responding to the toast, thanked Mr Harris for what he had said, and spoke of the good treatment they had received at the hands of the Otago Rugby Football Union, Mr G. Kestieaux -proposed the toast, “Otago Rugby Football Union,’’ and, in doing so, said that all clubs in Dunedin recognised that from that body they had always had fair treatment. He congratulated the union on its most successful year. Mr V. G. Cavanagh, who • responded, said that, the past year had ipdeed been successful, and he attributed a large amount of its success to the support received from the clubs themselves and the players. Their loyalty to the union had been very gratifying. The toasts “The Otago Referees’ Association,” “Sister Clubs.” “Our Representative Players,” and ‘‘The Ladies,” were also honoured. ' The following prims were presented during the evening:—Trophy for most consistent forward in First, Grade team, H. Thomas; most consistent back, G. King; most consistent player in Second Grade team, W. Saunders.; and most consistent player in Third Grade team, L. J. Hobson. Musical items were rendered as follow; Song, Mr Charlie Marston; instrumental item, Mr Robertson; recitation, Mr Strain, song, Mr Geo. Marston; horn solo, Mr Fowler; songs—Messrs J. Haggitt, Fred Hollyman, R. M'Kenzie, Geo. Mearns, K. Mee, George Newton; recitation, Mr Russel) ; song, Stan Jeffs; accompanist, Mr J. Haggitt. ■
