CITY POLICE COURT

Friday, September 29. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) Drunkenness. —A first offender, who pleaded “guilty” to a charge of drunkenness, was fined 10s and 2s 6d cab fare. A statutory first offender, who had been remanded for a week for observation, also pleaded guilty to a similar charge, and was fined 10s. He also admitted being £57 in arrear with an order for the maintenance of; his illegitimate child. Accused handed in a statement to the effect that he had recently been seven months in hospital. He consented to take out a prohibition brddr against himself and pay £5 off the arrears. _ On, condition that ho did this the magistrate adjourned the case for two months and prohibited the publication of the name. Maintenance.—Jessie . Isabella Robertson proceeded against James Robertson for disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears amounting fo £25 up to August 23 last. Mr A.;O Hanlon appeared for the complainant.—Mr - Wy L. ' Moore, for the defendant, pleaded “Not guilty,” and said that the order had been overpaid. —Tlio Magistrate, after looking into the figures, dismissed the case. Scries of Burglary Charges.—Alexander Christie Bennet was faced, with, a,.lengthy series of charges of burglary; The'charges were that on February 2, 1922, at Dunedin, by night, he broke and entered the dwelling bouse of Ernest Nelson Didham and stole a silver watch valued at £lO and £22 in money; that on August 8, 1920. he entered the house pf Albert Brodie Hall and stole £6O in money and a toy elephant; that on September 8. 1922, ho entered the house; of Robert Fraser , and .stole £1 Ifis in money and a stop watch valued at £4; that bn January 11, 1921, he entered the. house of William Lovell and stole £B7. a cheque boob, and brief bag of a total value of £BB 10s; and that on March 17. 1922, he stole a man’s bicycle valued at £6, the property of John Bews.—Chiefdetective Bishop asked that the case be remanded till next Friday.—Mr Hanlon, who was appearing' for the accused, would be able to go on with the case on the following Monday. He asked for the adjournment owing to the illness of a couple of Jus witnesses.—Mr Hanlon said that in the circumstances he could not object to the ad iqurnment, which was granted accordingly. Alleged Adulterated Milk.—Andrew M’Cabe was charged \vith selling an' Julv 21 .last for human consumption adulterated fond—namely, milk, containing less than 8.5 per cent, of solids and less than 3,25 per cent, of butter-fat.—Mr Hanlon appeared for the defendant, and in the absence of Mr F. B. Adams the case was adjourned till October 13.
