WAR DEBTS
AMERICAN STANDPOINT. DISARMAMENT MUST ACCOMPANY REMISSION. PrtM Xu ociation—By Telegraph—Copyright. WAHINGTON, August 3, Senator Borah states that the people of the United States will never be really interested in any proposition for the cancellation of the Allied debt to the United States unless it is accompanied by certain guarantees of practical disarmament cm land and sea.—A. and N.Z. Cable. THE TREATY CONDEMNED IMMEDIATE REVISION NECESSARY. LONDON, August 2. Speaking at Heywood, Mr A. Henderson, M.P., said the failure of the Versailles Treaty was amply evidenced by scope and intensity of the terrible effects of the economic clauses, experienced alike by the vanquished and the victors. Immediate revision was essential. On the grounds of honour and expediency, the Allies should not ge beyond the armistice terms, and they w not entitled to demand more than they could actually get. Labour welcomed Earl of Balfour’s Note. The British policy was right. It should not, however, be conditional on America doing likewise.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
