MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION.

EXECUTIVE MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association was held last night, Mr W. C. Burt presiding. It was the first meeting of the new executive, and there was a good attendance. A considerable quantity of correspondence was received from tho Industrial Association of Canterbury, dealing with the proposed exhibition of New Zealand-made goods in Christchurch from November 13 to December 9 of this year. —Following some discussion it was decided that tho executive should recommend members to support the Christchurch exhibition. ■ The matter of a Dunedin exhibition was then discussed, and the following motion carried:—‘“That - an industrial exhibition be held in Dunedin next year, under the auspices of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association.”—Messrs W. C. Burt (president), R. Cuddie (vice-president), W. • R. Hayward, C. Speight, E. H. Lough, and W. M'Kinlay were appointed a committee to make preliminary arrangements. Messrs W. C. Burt and O. Speight were appointed the association’s representatives on the War Memorial Executive. After some discussion on the matter of the proposed advertising directory which is to be issued by the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association Mr J. Hogg moved, Mr J. H. Stewart seconding, “That the policy of the association in issuing tho directory be to advertise Otago-mode goods among buyers within the dominion.”—Carried.— Messrs Burt, Cuddie, Hogg, Hayward, Somerville, Speight, and Hudson were appointed a committee to make preliminary arrangements. The Secretary, Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, wrote stating that the Imports Committee of the chalnber has had under consideration for some weeks past the matter of the trade of this port with a view to devising means for its improvement. As it was proposed to approach the overseas shipping companies by deputation today, the chamber invited delegates from the manufacturers.—Messrs W. C., Burt, Forsyth Johnston, and J. S. Faulkner were, appointed the association’s representatives. The Department of Industries and Commerce (Board of Trade) wrote stating that the British Empire Exhibition Mission would probably arrive here about July 25, and would spend about two ' days and ahalf in Dunedin. The missiori comprises Major E. A. Belcher. C.8.E., M.A. (in charge of the mission), Lieutenant-colonel A. Christie, C.M.G., D.-5.0., financial adviser, accompanied by Mrs Christie, and Mr F. W. Bates, secretary, and will be accompanied by an officer of the department. The mission desires to interest the people of _ the dominion in the British Empire Exhibition, ’ which is to be held in London in the summer of 1924, and is making inquiries as to the resources of this dominion.—The secretary was instructed to inform the department that the association would undertake the organisation of a meeting or meetings to facilitate the work of the mission.
