(Received May 23, at 5.5 p.m.) Mr' Austen Chamberlain, replying to a question, referred to a statement reported to have been made by M. Tchitcherin at Genoa warning Japan that any attack by the latter .on the Far Eastern Republic would automatically result in war with Russia. The British Government, he said, would not make friendly representations to Japan to evacuate Russian territory without delay as it relied on the, fulfilment by'the Japanese Government of their undertakings.—A. and N.Z.
