WOOL TOPS CASE
HUGE SUMS INVOLVED. A CROSS ACTION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, May 25. (Received May 23, at 7.15 p.m.) The hearing has commenced of what is known as the “wool tops” case, in which 'the commonwealth and the Central Committee are proceeding against the Colonial Spinning and Weaving Co., Ltd. The plaintiffs’ claim is for money allegedly due by the defendant company as license fees for allowing the company to sell wdpl tops to foreign countries. The sum of £250,000 is claimed as damages for breach of agreement, also the sum of £282,000, paid by' plaintiffs conditional upon such release.
A 'cross action is indicated, involving about £1,000,000, in which the defendant company alleges that the Commonwealth Government is guilty of breaches of the agreement, refusing consent to further sales of wool tops except on conditions which give the government a greater share of the profits fromythe company’s operations than they are entitled, to.
