AFFLUENCE TO POVERTY

ARBUCKLE’S WEALTH. ‘ EATEN UP IN LEGAL COSTS. NEW YORK, March 26. The New York World’s San Francisco correspondent states that Arbuckle revealed that his private fortune has gonef as the result of the tremendous expenditure for his defence. He received an or-nately-decorated cheque-book on the occasion of his 35th birthday. He said ruefully : “I have not enough money now to write one cheque, much less a whole book full.” Arbuckle formerly was a lavish spender, and lived in extreme luxury ; but at the present time is living quietly.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
