OTAGO ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The number of men actually competing in local athletic sports has increased gradually during the past few seasons till now fields ot pre-war strength face the starter. This applies both to sprints and to distances, though it is in the latter class of events mat Otago has tended to predominate. Of the middle distance men competing to-day Hill, of Pacific Club, Bews, of Invercargill, and Gale, of the Anglican Club, will put up a good showing, while the "Light Blues” will also be well on hand. OK the younger runners Ashby and Forbes (brother of the three-miler) are snowing splendid promise. In the relay race for boys advantage will be taken cf the 10 yards concession either way for exchanging the baton, which should bo carried in the left hand and placed in the right hand of the next runner, who will then transfer it io his left hand. If this is done uniformly confusion will be avoided, and the runner will wait with the right hand extended to the rear and the left foot forward so as to start quickly. The details in connection .with the meeting have been carefully attended to, and it only remains for the public to turn up in good numbers for the complete success of the meeting to be assured.
