Griffith-Boscawen (Minister of Agriculture), speaking in the House of Commons, stated that the epidemic of foot-and-mouth disease had caused the slaughter of 21,760 cattle, 19,971 sheep, and 8755 pigs. The total cost of administration, including £660,460 compensation, was £820.469, and ultimately it would reach £1,000,000.
